Dominant Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and collected a historic £11m in earnings.
She received nearly 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
